  2. HBO has released a trailer for Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom, a new series about journalism coming this summer. I typically like Jeff Daniels and think he could do well enough in this role. A little bristled and unbalanced works for him. Are his America comments in the above clip really so controversial though?

  3. Strange to think, but I worked on this film. I was a producer’s assistant and it was shot in spring of 2010 in Alton, Illinois, right before I moved to D.C. We shot scenes in prisons, schools, strip clubs, and bars, and I had a blast. I kept people quiet, drove actors around, helped with food and supplies, and did whatever I could. The film is called Joint Body and it’s coming to dvd this summer, apparently.

This weekend friends and I went to a 24 hour screening of all 9 Oscar Best Picture nominees. I drank way too much Cherry Coke in those 24 hours, and shit got really crazy around 4am. No one should ever watch War Horse at 4am.

My Personal Ranking of All the Best Picture Nominees After Finally Getting a Full Night’s Sleep and Eating Foods Not Found in a Movie Theater:

    1. The Artist

    2. Hugo

    3. Midnight in Paris

    4. The Tree of Life

    5. Moneyball

    6. The Descendants

    7. The Help

    8. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

    9. War Horse

What a weekend. My own ranking would be similar—probably with Midnight in Paris over Hugo and The Descendants over Moneyball.

Happy Monday. Here’s a beautiful short doc on DC’s Red Line graffiti. (via TBDOnFoot)

The short film really is worth a watch if you have a moment or two. Read more here.

  7. Brace yourselves. A Party Down movie is officially going to begin shooting later this year.

  8. A new documentary about Pruitt-Igoe is coming out in 2012 and I can’t wait to see it.
