I live in Washington, D.C., where I first came to work as a writer and producer for The Atlantic in 2010 and then covered D.C. transportation for TBD On Foot. These days, I report on state telecom issues for Warren.

Tracks to the Union Station, 03/14/1908
Washington DC’s Union Station opened in 1907 and was officially complete in 1908. However it would not be connected to the local streetcar system until later that year. Until then, the only “tracks” were those made by harried travelers through the mud and snow.
Streetcar tracks within one year? Union Station in the 21st century has been waiting on connecting streetcar tracks going on like three or four years now.
Fascinating to think back to the days when St. Louis featured streetcars all over.
A major hat tip to my girlfriend, Heather Rudow, who features in this post in a conversation with D.C. Council Chairman Kwame Brown.
