Should the D.C. Metro allow bicycles on its trains during rush hour? It’s forbidden, but many bicyclists want to change the rules.

  2. Fascinating to think back to the days when St. Louis featured streetcars all over.

“Occupy Transit!” That’s the message Metro unions and other transit workers had this morning at Farragut Square in Washington, D.C. Governments all around the country, they contend, need to fund buses, trains, and light rail more than we have before. They’re allying with the Occupy movement to spread the message.

  4. The D.C. Metro is now working to let riders report sexual harassment after pressure from local groups last month. They’ve created an e-mail address you can send reports to, for starters, and are planning a public awareness campaign in the months to come. Wise, fast response to some hard critiques.

    NYC in the 80’s

Beautiful photo’s of decayed New York in the 80’s by Steven Siegel

E-mailed this to Dad.  His response: “It was worse in the ’70s!”

Such a different vision of transit than I’m used to in D.C. in 2012 (except for maybe with I’m riding on one half of the Red Line).

Two new car-sharing companies are coming to Washington, D.C., and the first one’s officially here. Watch out, Zipcar!

Happy Monday. Here’s a beautiful short doc on DC’s Red Line graffiti. (via TBDOnFoot)

The short film really is worth a watch if you have a moment or two. Read more here.

D.C. Metro riders drop their pants yesterday afternoon for the No Pants Subway Ride, an international event orchestrated by Improv Everywhere. I joined them. See photos of the hilarity.
